& TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Know your flow of Qi ...
For more than 22 centuries Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used to prevent and treat disease. The essence of this remarkable medical system is Qi (lifeforce energy) and the main objective is to restore balance between the two complementary, yet opposite forces known as yin and yang. Qi permeates every cell and tissue of the human body, but also converges and circulates within pathways called Meridians. This dynamic circuitry forms a complex network of energetic communication, that not only reaches the body's surface where it presents as acupuncture points, but also dives deep into the interconnected system of internal organs. In fact, the whole structure of the human body is created by this impressive web of vibrant current and the incredible interaction between the visible and more dense yin substance with the invisible and breath-like yang energy.
When yin and yang are in harmony, the body can thrive because the Qi is able to regenerate it's cells, tissues, muscles, bones and necessary blood and body fluids through the uninhibited movement, mutation and conversion of the yin and yang substances. This transformation of qi substances is what powers the internal organ systems and regulates the movement of blood and qi, the distribution of fluids, the assimilation and digestion of food, the discharge of waste, the moistening of the tendons and bones, the warming of the flesh, and the production of healthy hair on the head and body. From a western medicine perspective, qi transformation is essentially the equivalent to metabolism; yang qi similar to catabolism and the release of energy and yin qi similar to anabolism and the storage of energy.
In summary, Qi is the lifeforce energy behind the human body's innate intelligence that regulates not only growth and development, but also homeostasis; the function of creating and maintaining a state of optimal health and vitality. It is the vivacious essence of life that ignites the 50 trillion cells that assemble our human body; creating and powering the tissues, organs, bones and nerves. It's what connects us to our consciousness. So to restore balance and harmony within the body and mind, Traditional Chinese Medicine uses a comprehensive diagnostic system to evaluate the levels of qi, blood, yin and yang within the organs and meridians by observing tongue and pulse, and also by examining all external physiological symptoms that may be present. Once a diagnosis has been made, a treatment plan can be issued. Since Traditional Chinese Medicine primarily uses Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and dietary practices as the principal treatment methods, depending on your differential diagnosis of syndromes, your treatment plan may also include the use of Moxibustion, Cupping, Acupressure and Qi Gong.
